Undeniably the most exciting news this month is the report of a pregnancy at the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary in Way Kambas National Park, Indonesia. A little while ago, Andalas, the first of only three Sumatran rhinos born in captivity in more than 112 years, had popped his cherry and Save The Rhino, with whom we work closely in the region are now overjoyed to report that an ultrasound on 16 February confirmed that female Ratu is now pregnant. This truly fantastic news is the result of long-term, widespread international collaboration and offers hope for one of the world's most endangered species. The calf is due in May 2011 and we'll have everything crossed until then!
