Doli Lodge, Dzanga Sangha National Park
Taking its name from the local Sango name for elephant, Doli Lodge was the first lodge in the Dzanga Sangha National Park. Constructed in 1996 with funds from GTZ (German Cooperation of Technical Collaboration), who along with the WWF and the Central African Republic forest ministry, were a key partner in the Sangha River Tri-national Protected Areas, which includes Ndoki Nouabale National Park.
The lodge comprises of 8 simple wooden bungalows (with 2 double rooms in each) with platforms raised above the ground overlooking the Sangha River and are equipped with en-suite bathroom, twin beds, fans, mosquito nets and all the comforts necessary to relax after your excursions into the rainforest. The restaurant that overlooks the river, prepares European and African dishes, using local products where possible including different dishes of cassava, liana leaves, nuts, peanut butter as well as different types of meat, fish and vegetarian options.
In addition to the lowland gorilla trekking, you can also meet field biologist Andrea Turkalo the world’s leading expert on forest elephants, who has lived in Dzanga Sangha for 20 years and has helped compile one of the world’s first elephant “dictionaries”.
