Tortilis Camp

Steppes Discovery awaiting image

You can’t escape the Tortilis Acacia or ‘Umbrella Tree’ in the Greater Amboseli region, proving much sort after shade in an otherwise arid grassy plain. Under one such grove is this award winning luxury tented camp called Tortilis, offering unparalleled views of Mount Kilimanjaro. The tented accommodation is well appointed, spacious and comfortable with en suite bathroom and a private veranda that is an ideal place to enjoy the middle of the day. Alternatively, relax around the small swimming pool, which is set in a pretty, natural garden. The open-plan thatched bar, dining room and lounge is located on a hill and affords magnificent views.

Wildlife
Large well studied matriarchal elephant herds, prides of lions and cheetah, Maasai giraffe, buffalo, zebra, eland, Coke's hartebeest, waterbuck, gazelle and impala.

Activities
Game viewing in open safari vehicles, bush breakfasts and sundowners atop the Kitirua hills, visits to the local Maasai Manyatta and guided walks.

Eco-credentials
The camp is dependant on a healthy ecosystem and good relations with its Maasai neighbours, and funds generated by your stay have been used to establish a local primary school and a Game Scout and wildlife education programme.
