Sustainable travel credentials:
AITO Travel Writer of the Year, Chris Haslam was asked "Who in Travel deserves an award?" – "The winner of the Haslam award for excellency goes to Kicheche Camp for it’s passionate commitment to the local community"
Established in 2004, the Kicheche Community Project is a reliable source of funding for projects in and around the Mara North Conservancy. Realising from an early stage that the preservation of wildlife and habitat was inextricably linked with the local community, Kicheche has made a concerted effort to improve the welfare of local people through improved health and education facilities.
In addition, Kicheche adopts sound environmental practices in the running of its camps. Solar power is used at all of its camps, all non-biodegradable waste is removed from the region to a suitable collection point in Nairobi and recycled charcoal dust pellets are brought in from Nairobi for water heating. Kicheche Camp has a Bronze rating from the Eco-Tourism Society of Kenya.
Photography:
The Kicheche camps are ideal bases from which to photograph the Masai Mara and cater for the special requirements of serious photographers - professional or amateur.
The game driving vehicles are open sided Land Cruisers offering the ultimate in flexibility whilst shooting with open rooves for higher vantage points or you can shoot through the open sides. Upon request Kicheche are able to attach platforms to the sides of the vehicle making it easier to position larger lenses. They can also provide bean bags on request and offer a very competitive sole use rate for photographers wanting the ultimate flexibility.
