Meru National Park

Meru National Park is famous for its association with the film Born Free, Elsa the Lioness and the work of Joy and George Adamson. Its diverse vegetation, from open plains and riverbanks dotted with doum palms to woodlands, is crisscrossed by more than 13 rivers, and offers visitors spectacular views of Mt Kenya

One can view a wide variety of wildlife including elephant especially tuskers, cheetah, leopard, lesser kudu, duiker, and Dik Dik. Large prides of lion can be seen and some of Kenya's largest herds of buffalo. The rivers abound with hippo and crocodile, fishing for barbus and catfish is permitted along the Tana River.

There are also over 300 species of birds making it a veritabel feast for nature and bird lovers especially as it is well off the beaten track.
