The Laikepia Plateau, Samburu & Northern Kenya

Zebras in Africa

The Laikipia Plateau extends from the foothills of Mount Kenya to the edge of the Rift Valley and north to the lands of Samburu and the edge drops abruptly to the northern frontier district. The land is divided into large private wildlife and cattle ranches and pioneering community group ranches that have turned back to wildlife conservation.

Today its wildlife densities rank second to the Masai Mara and boasts more endangered animals than anywhere else in East Africa. Superb for viewing pioneering wildlife conservation efforts and a range of species in Northern Kenya including Rhino and Gerenuk and has the largest population of elephants outside of National Parks. Scenically it is stunning, with vast savannah and arid landscapes looked down upon one of Africa's most iconic mountains, Mt Kenya.

The structure and nature of tourism here is that of being treated more like a house guest than a simple visitor and you can enjoy staying as guests on a private ranch, in superb tented camps, or in lodges owned and managed by local communities - all offering unique and exclusive experiences to enjoy away from the crowds.
