Sustainable travel credentials:
AITO Travel Writer of the Year, Chris Haslam was asked "Who in Travel deserves an award?" – "The winner of the Haslam award for excellency goes to Kicheche Camp for it’s passionate commitment to the local community"

Established in 2004, the Kicheche Community Project is a reliable source of funding for projects in and around the Masai Mara and Laikipia. Realising from an early stage that the preservation of wildlife and habitat was inextricably linked with the local community, Kicheche has made a concerted effort to improve the welfare of local people through improved health and education facilities.

In addition, Kicheche adopts sound environmental practices in the running of its camps. Solar power is used at all of its camps, all non-biodegradable waste is removed from the region to a suitable collection point in Nairobi and recycled charcoal dust pellets are brought in from Nairobi for water heating. Kicheche Camp has a Bronze rating from the Eco-Tourism Society of Kenya.
