Ol Donyo Wuas

Steppes Discovery awaiting image

The first thing you notice is Mt Kilimajaro itself, only 40 miles away and directly ahead of you from any part of this wonderful lodge. Before this are hundreds of thousands of acres of grassy plains and flat topped acacia’s, a corridor for wildlife wandering between Tsavo and Amboseli parks. Ol Donyo Wuas is Richard Bonham’s and his wife’s home, and lies in the foothills of the Chyulu Range of volcanic mountains which rise to over 8000ft. There are seven beautiful cottages resting on stilts on the side of a hill with en suite bathrooms. A communal dining and living room is the gathering point for drinks before dinner or at breakfast

Wildlife
Many old bull elephants, plenty of lions and hyena, cheetah, leopard, oryx and gerenuk, herds of gazelle, giraffe, ostrich and over 150 species of birds.

Eco-credentials
The lodge is a pioneering partnership with the Maasai of Mbirikani group ranch, to support the community and ensure the wildlife is preserved. The Maasailand Trust funds anti poaching, school and medical facilities as a direct result of your visit.
