Ampijoroa Forestry Station (Ankarafantsika National Park)
Ampijoroa competes with Kirindy in providing the best accessible example of western deciduous forest. Access is easy and a clear network of level paths makes wildlife viewing easy. Many groups of lemurs have become tolerant of people so can be observed at close quarters. Night walks are particularly rewarding as the density of nocturnal lemurs is high. Birdwatching is also outstanding with a number of rare endemics, such as Schlegel's asity, Madagascar fish eagle and Van Dam's vanga frequently seen.
Key species to look for are Coquerel's sifaka, Madagascar fish eagle, Oustalet's chameleon, rhinoceros chameleon and stump-tailed chameleon
Best months to visit are after the first rains in November when the reptiles are more prominent and during the summer (December - March) although it can be extremely hot at this time of year.
