Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Holidays

Chris has been travelling to Rwanda for nearly 10 years and having successfully led tours here himself, it remains one of his own personal favourites. Rwanda is synonymous with the mountain gorilla and he rates his experiences of gorilla trekking in the Parc National des Volcans as one of his most memorable wildlife tours; “the sense of wonder as you step through the lush vegetation and come face to face with one of the world’s greatest apes is impossible to put into words.”

Rwanda has so much more wildlife to offer than just gorilla safaris. On his last trip to Rwanda Chris visited the Nyungwe Forest for his first chimpanzee safari and the chance to enjoy a spot of bird watching with more than 280 species recorded.

Away from the forests, the little known Akagera park bordering Tanzania, is reminiscent of the more open savannahs of East Africa and wildlife here includes buffalo, elephant, giraffe, and zebra along with a small population of lion, leopard and black rhino. The birdlife here is also excellent with over 550 recorded species.

Many people choose to end their tour by visiting the shores of Lake Kivu, centred around the  picturesque town of Gisenyi and its pleasantly tropical atmosphere. It is the people however, who leave a lasting impression and a visit to the dignified genocide memorial in Kigali, offers an insight into the strength and resolve of the Rwandese people, who will offer you one of the warmest welcomes in Africa.
