Lake Kivu

Rwanda Lake Kivu

The Lake Kivu area is centred around the town of Gisenyi and offers a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere, with the lower town offering a picturesque setting of  old colonial homesteads and a jumble of architectural buildings. Given the relaxed atmosphere and the charming markets, it is a great place to spend a few days and unwind at the end of a tour on the sandy shores of one of East Africa's inland seas. You can either choose to explore the area and visit Rosamond Carr’s engaging Imbabazi orphanage nearby or just sit back and enjoy the beautiful view, with the lakes blue water surrounded by steeply terraced escarpments with the northern shore overlooked by the smoking Nyiragongo volcano.
