Parc National des Volcans

Virunga Mountains (Parc National des Volcans)

Straddling the borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Rwanda, this chain of steep, free standing mountains is one of the most dramatic parks in East Africa, if not the whole of the continent. Ranging in altitude from 2,400 to 4,500 metres and dotted with volcanic crater lakes, six extinct and three active volcanoes and primeval rainforest, Virunga National Park is quite simply stunning. It is also the last stronghold of the worlds remaining mountain gorillas and it is here that you have the chance to follow in the foots of Dian Fossey and come face to face with the rarest of the great apes – the ultimate wildlife experience.
