Tanzania is, for many, the ultimate safari destination. With over 25% of the country protected in national parks, harbouring an incredible 20% of Africa’s entire large mammal population you are in for some incredible wildlife experiences.
The country is perhaps most well known for the awesome migration on the plains of the Serengeti, where million-strong herds of wildebeest and zebra snake across the savannah, with hungry predators in tow. The Ngorongoro Crater is home to some of the highest density of game in Africa, all set against the dramatic 600 metre high crater walls and offers the best chance of seeing the rare, black rhino. However, with so many diverse regions, Tanzania has so much more to offer.
Lions climb trees in Lake Manyara National Park, huge elephant herds roam Tarangire, lakes turn pink from flocks of flamingos and wild dogs hunt in the little visited parks of the south. The beautiful shores of Mahale and Gombe Stream national park are also home to the countries most boisterous primate, the chimpanzee where the adventurous traveller has the chance to trek these fascinating creatures through spectacular scenery.
