Katavi National Park, Tanzania
Katavi is a true wilderness, providing the few intrepid souls who make it there with a thrilling taste of Africa as it must have been a century ago. The main focus for game viewing is centred around the Katuma River which is a haven for water birds and also supports Tanzania’s densest concentrations of hippo and crocodile.
However, in the dry season The Katuma forms the only source of drinking water for miles around and the floodplains support huge numbers of game that defy belief. Approximately 4,000 elephants, herds of 1,000-plus buffalo and an abundance of antelope provide easy pickings for the numerous lions and hyenas whose territories all meet on the plains. In a word - spectacular.
