Mahale Mountains National Park, Tanzania
Mahale Mountains National Park has rightly been described as one of the most beautiful parks in Africa. The adventure begins even before you arrive, flying in over the mist covered Mahale Mountains themselves, looking out for the elusive forest elephants below. The deserted sandy beaches on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, crystal clear waters in which to snorkel and the forested slopes, rich in flora and fauna dominate the sky line behind all give the park an almost prehistoric feel.
However, it is at night when you hear the call of the parks most famous resident, that you understand what Mahale is all about - chimpanzees. The thrill of tracking these incredible creatures who live on the mountains make this a very special place indeed and for those with the budget, provides an unparralleled wildlife experience one of the most spectacular parks in the country, if not Africa. Incredibly remote, certainly not cheap and difficult to get to - the best places in the world, usually are!
