Nkungwe Tented Camp

This small tented camp is situated between Kasiha and Sinsiba streams offering a comfortable place to stay nestled in the shadow of the Mahale mountains, with the light and airy tents furnished in a classical safari style, overlooking lake Tanganyika. There is also the chance to head out on the dhows or just relax on the beach and then return to the bar at night, lit by storm lanterns and candles to enjoy a cold beer and watch the fishermen cast their nets at dusk. A classic bush camp and great place to stay in one of the more remote locations in the park.

Wildlife
Fantastic chimpanzee encounters (occasionally easier than tracking from other camps as the lodge is nearer to the start of the trail!), numerous other primates, birds, butterflies, bushbuck, bushpig and over 250 species of tropical fish in Lake Tanganyika.

Activities
chimp trekking, swimming in the lake, relaxing on the beach, bird watching, watching the world go by.

Eco-credentials
Sensitive use of local materials, local employment in an area traditionally overlooked by tourism.
