Sand Rivers

Set on the banks of the Rufiji River in the north-eastern sector of the Selous Game Reserve, Sand Rivers offers some of the best accommodation in the park. Raised on wooden platforms each open-fronted room features a large four poster bed, en-suite bathrooms and a spacious veranda, with stunning views over the river. You can enjoy boat rides to Steiglers Gorge, (the best place to look for leopards), head out on foot to explore the area or experience the night under the starts in a traditional “fly-camp”. The main lodge is made from thatch and stone, polished off with dark wooden floors and blends in perfectly to the environment. Without doubt our favourite lodge in the South.

Wildlife
Great for leopard in nearby Steiglers gorge, crocodile nests along the river banks, along with monitor lizards and colonies of bee-eaters, huge hippo pods, excellent birding, one of the last remaining sanctuaries for wild dogs.

Activities
Fly camping, bush walks, boat safaris, game drives, fishing.

Eco-credentials
Supporters of the Selous Rhino Trust, set up to secure the long-term future of the black rhino in the Selous and Southern Tanzania. A Percentage of the money spent staying here is donated to the trust to ensure they continue their vital work.  The owners of the lodge are also members of  WCST - wildlife conservation society of Tanzania.
