With a diverse habitat including open savannah, volcanoes, snow-capped mountains (including the famous Rwenzoris), semi-desert and mountain rainforest, Uganda has a dazzling variety of wildlife. It's little wonder that our Africa specialist Chris Johnston returns again and again to this beautiful country. With some of Africa's richest primate habitats, opportunities for mountain gorilla trekking in both Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga National Park, are some of the best in the world.

Equally as thrilling is the chance to track chimpanzees in Kibale Forest, Semliki Wildlife Reserve and Kyambura Gorge or take a walk with infant chimpanzees at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

Big game is also incredibly well represented here, Queen Elizabeth National Park  being home to leopard, elephant, buffalo, Ugandan Kob and tree climbing lions. A cruise to the source of the Nile at Murchison Falls will reveal some of the largest crocodiles in Africa and is one of the best places in the country to find the shoebill stork (Chris was lucky enought to see two on his last trip).

Nearly everywhere you will find exceptional birding in Uganda with over 1,000 species recorded and along with the albertine rift endemics, there are beautiful turacos, trogons, black bee-eaters, eagle owls and the grey crowned crane – Uganda’s national bird.

This combination of thrilling wildlife tours, gorilla tracking safaris, dramatic landscapes and world class birding, not the mention the warm welcome you will receive from the local people, makes Uganda one of the most alluring wildlife holiday destinations in Africa.
