Steppes Discovery has been offering Antarctic holidays for over ten years. Our two main Antarctic specialists Alex and Sue are both passionate about this extraordinary region and its wildlife having experienced Antarctica personally, along with seven others in the office (probably a record we think!). With over twenty years of Antarctic experience between them, their knowledge can help guide you through the maze of choices to the right vessel and voyage. At Steppes we pride ourselves in offering well informed, objective advice to our clients backed up by first hand experience, regular ship inspections and strong relationships with all our ship operators.
Antarctica; remote, harsh, often inaccessible, yet utterly beguiling. We offer small expedition cruise ships that enable the intrepid traveller to explore in both safety and comfort. Daily landings by zodiac accompanied by knowledgeable expeditionary staff provide up close encounters with glaciers, icebergs and an exotic selection of wildlife which call Antarctica home, as well as the chance to set foot on the continent itself. Visits to a selection of penguin rookeries feature highly on any ship’s itinerary, with the antics of these clownish birds providing plenty of entertainment and photo opportunities. As well as a number of different species of seals, Antarctica also offers good whale watching opportunities, particularly later in the season (Feb & March). These tend to be Minke, Humpback and Orca, with rare sightings of Sei and even Blue.
The Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetlands voyage offers an excellent all-encompassing introduction to Antarctica, while the longer Crossing the Circle voyage is ideal for those looking to spend the most amount of time exploring. For the ultimate wildlife experience the combination voyage of Antarctic, South Georgia & The Falklands is unbeatable, while the remote Ross Sea and Sub-Antarctics will appeal to those particularly looking for bird life or the path less travelled.
