Trip Overview
This expedition will mark the 94th anniversary of the sinking of Ernest Shackleton's HMS Endurance, on November 21 1915. This epic disaster became Shackleton’s greatest triumph as he lead all his men to safety across the pack ice and onward to Elephant Island where they sheltered for four and half months awaiting rescue. You will visit Elephant Island and cross the northern regions of the Weddell Sea to the rarely visited Princess Martha Coast and then onto the South Sandwich islands first charted by Captain James Cook in 1775. This epic 30 day adventure climaxes in South Georgia, which was to become Shackleton’s final resting place at Grytviken, where you will have the chance to visit his grave, before finally sailing onwards to the Falkland Islands and Stanley from where you fly back home via Santiago.
