Trip Overview
Exploring the coast of Baffin Island and into the Eastern end of the Northwest Passage. Looking for a polar bear on the sea ice, or perhaps the blow of one of those pagophilic (ice-loving) whales, the mighty Bowhead whale. A dark spot on an ice flow might be a ringed seal or even a walrus. Long hikes on the tundra will open up an incredible vista of wildflowers and lichens, showcasing a vibrancy of landscape that is at odds with a region often referred to as the ‘Barrens’. Zodiac cruises will be take you along the bird cliffs of Prince Leopold Island or Cape Hay Migratory Bird Sanctuary looking up at the many thousands of nesting guillemots, murres and kittiwakes. Perhaps you will see the wily Arctic fox bounding from rock to rock, looking for a hapless chick on a nest or a polar bear waiting at the bottom of the cliff to catch the fledging murre chicks as they leave their scrapes (nests).
