Summary
Spitsbergen is one of the best destinations in which to see polar bears in their natural habitat. As the winter ice begins to break up in June up and temperatures rise, polar bears make the most of the short summer. On the sea ice you may encounter adult bears in search of seals, on the shores you are most likely to encounter mothers with young cubs teaching them to hunt and forage. With towering sea cliffs where birds such as Guillemots nest in their hundreds of thousands and grasslands home to various species of geese, Arctic Foxes and the Spitsbergen Reindeer, you will not be short of subjects to photograph.
