At Polarriggen guests are welcomed from all over the world, all year round. Polarriggen is a great starting point for travelling around Svalbard, experiencing the Arctic or just relax from every day life. Run by the ebullient Mary-Ann and adorned with mining and hunting memorabilia, the Polarrigg brims with character. Betraying its origins as a workers' billet from without, it's cosiness itself within.

The main building has 18 single rooms and 15 double rooms with bunk beds. The rooms are of basic standard. Before Polarriggen became an accommodation for tourists it was used as housing for the mine workers of Svalbard. There are shared showers and toilets. In the newly built annex there are 9 rooms with a slightly higher standard. You can choose between double rooms and rooms with 4 beds. All rooms here have their own bathroom with shower. It is also possible to put in an extra mattress in the room.

The name Shang Po-lar comes from the dining room in the mining settlement of Sverdrupbyen in the 1930’s. The dining room is built around the lives of the coal miners and trappers of the old Svalbard. A perfect place to get inspiration for your own experiences and trips in the area. We serve breakfast here every morning between 8 am and 10 am. It is also possible to preorder lunch and dinner here. We make outstanding polar food in exciting combinations with seal, whale, goose, reindeer, fish and other delicious things that the Arctic wildlife of Svalbard offers. We also serve old style home cooking if you wish. Our outdoor bar is in connection with a big wooden tub, ”Badestampen”, for 8 people and is a perfect finale for your stay on Svalbard. Badestampen and Rompa Bar are popular during both summer and winter. The bar is open until midnight. On request we can also make a barbeque at the Rompa Bar.
