Summary:
This pioneering tour is designed to offer a few adventurous travellers access to one of the last frontiers of adventure travel in the wilds of Papua New Guinea and a dazzling array of natural beauty, exotic wildlife and cultural tradition.
From the steamy tropical jungle to mist shrouded mountains these isolated regions are home to unique fauna and flora found nowhere else on earth. This tour takes you into the heart of these unexplored regions, where dragon lizards prowl in the undergrowth, tree kangaroo’s climb above you and thousands of butterflies fill the sky.
However, the focus of the tour is designed to search for the spectacular birdlife and of course the dazzling birds of paradise. Of the 43 known species on earth, 38 are found in this region, including the superb bird of paradise, the Ribbon-tailed Astrapia and the twelve wired bird of paradise, but there is also the beautiful rainbow bee-eater, striking palm cockatoo and the prehistoric cassowary.
This kaleidoscopic face of the natural world is mirrored in the lives of the people who live here from the colourful body adornment of the Huli highlanders and the ceremonial and decorative carvings of the Sepik Region, the people of Papua New Guinea share their customs and their heritage with a genuine openness and hospitality.
