Summary
A 4-day winter adventure focusing on wolves in Sweden’s beautiful Bergslagen region. The best season for tracking is January-March when the ground is still covered with snow and there is a chance to see wolves running across the many frozen lakes in this region. During the winter season the wolf pups have grown up and are hunting independently.

Only two-and-a-half hours flying time from the UK, Sweden is the ideal weekend break for those with a love of wildlife and wilderness. Steppes Discovery runs this trip in cooperation with one of Sweden’s leading naturalists, Marcus Eldh and researchers at Grimsö Wildlife Research Station; Sweden´s leading research centre for predators such as lynx and wolf. The tour includes a visit to the station and a fascinating lecture on wolves by a researcher recognised for his years of experience of field work. Our links with this cutting edge research station mean our chances of encountering wolves are greatly improved and we have recently agreed with  Grimsö that one of their researchers will join us in the field for an afternoon.

Depending on conditions it is very likely that most of the tracking will be done using cross country skis. Not only is this the most practical way of traversing the land when heavy snow has fallen it is also a fun and exhilarating way of moving around.

Play the video below to listen to the sound of wolves howling and imagine yourself tracking these wolves in the forests of Sweden.
