Ladakh
In the far-flung reaches of Northern India lies Ladakh, one of the most remote and sparsely populated regions on earth. Bordered by Tibet, this fascinating, yet least known region in India has an almost moonlike terrain, surrounded by some of the greatest mountain ranges of the world.
Ladakh is the last refuge of pure Tibetan Buddhism and home to the elusive and iconic snow leopard. It can be one of the most rewarding Himalayan trekking regions where you will find isolated villages, irrigated by the glaciers above but surrounded by desert. The capital, Leh, is a delight, and a day or so wandering the streets with the ruins of the former palace on the hillside above is essential.
It is now possible to explore this compellingly beautiful and remote region of India while staying in superb accommodation where previously it has barely existed. Accomodation is in beautifully converted, traditional Ladakhi homes in unspoilt Ladakhi villages, where you journey in comfort through the Indus Valley combining trekking, rafting, jeep safaris and visits to Monasteries as well as the chance to join experts in seach of the snow leopard.
