Pench National Park
The Pench National Park on the border of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra has been known through the ages for its rich flora and fauna. Named after the river that flows nearby, Pench was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1983, though it had been declared a notified area in 1972. In1992 Pench was included under the umbrella of Project Tiger as the 19th Project Tiger Reserve.
Comprising a core area of 299-sq-km and a 464-km buffer area, Pench is a mixture of tropical moist deciduous forest, dry deciduous teak bearing forests and dry mixed deciduous forest. With such varied habitat, the park supports great bio diversity; 39 species of mammal, 13 species of reptiles, 3 species of amphibians and over 200 varieties of bird have already been listed.
