Ranthambore National Park

India National park Jeep safari

Ranthambore National Park covers 410 sq km, surrounded by the Vindhya and Aravaili hills on the edge of the Thar desert in Rajasthan. The area is formerly the private tiger reserve of the Maharaja of Jaipur but the sanctuary became part of the project tiger scheme in 1972.
Ranthambhore is perhaps one of the most well known reserves in India and its relative accessibility makes it popular and sometimes busier than the more remote areas. Nonetheless, Ranthambhore retains a healthy tiger population and still remains to be one of the best places to see one of these elusive animals in the wild.

As well as tigers, and amongst many other species, Ranthambhore is home to leopard, striped hyena, sambar, sloth bear, crocodile, mongoose and black buck. A visit to Ranthambhore can easily be incorportated in to a more cultural trip in Rajasthan.
