Whilst the wildlife of Sri Lanka is a huge draw, it was the people which left a lasting impression on Chris, during his last visit. During his travels, he was able to explore Minneriya, one of the best places in Asia to see the Asian Elephant and it is here where the famous elephant gathering takes place, with herds of up to 300.
He also headed south east to Yala National Park home to one of the highest densities of leopard found anywhere in the world. He had some fantastic sightings on safari along with the chance to enjoy some of Sri Lanka’s birding, considered some of the best on the continent.
The off-shore the rich marine waters make for a very different wildlife experience, where you can enjoy whale safaris and see pods of dolphins hundred strong and watch the mighty blue and sperm whale breach the surface of the Indian Ocean.
With an easier pace of life than that of neighbouring India, you can also discover the countries rich culture, by exploring the ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa, the Sigiriya Lion Rock frescoes or the famous Temple of the Tooth in Kandy.
We can offer specialised group and tailormade wildlife tours to Sri Lanka so please contact Chris on 01285 64 33 33 for more details.
