Steppes Discovery has been offering voyages to Baja California aboard the Searcher for ten years and has built up an excellent working relationship with her captain and crew. Our Baja specialist Sue has recently returned from a voyage into the Sea of Cortez: we strongly believe in our consultants visiting the regions regularly.
Steppes Discovery offers both boat and land based options for whale watching in Baja California. Sail aboard the small boat, 'Searcher' for an in depth exploration of these marine wildlife rich waters, where the schedule is left flexible to enable the true spirit of adventure to flourish. Whilst on daily land excursions our Searcher Baja cruise explores Baja’s infamous towering cactus forests and miles of uninhabited beaches. Take to a zodiac and watch dolphins riding the bow wave or kayak with playful sea lions before donning snorkelling gear to appreciate the great richness of life beneath the waves.
For those who prefer not to sail we also offer a land based tour, staying at rustic beachside cabanas, where one can watch the Grey whales that come into San Ignacio Lagoon to calve. Excursions are taken in local pangas to see these inquisitive whales who seem to actively seek out human interaction. For keen photographers why not join our tour led by aclaimed wildlife photographer Sue Flood, this tour combines the whales of Baja with the Monarch butterfly migration.
The best months for whale watching in Baja, particularly for the grey whales, is January to April with departures available throughout this season.
