Sacha Lodge
Sacha Lodge is situated downstream from the Rio Napo. Nestled deep within a private 3,200 acre reserve, getting to Sacha Lodge is part of the adventure. Your journey will involve a stint inside light aircraft, motorised river boat, a hike and finally a paddle by dug out canoe. The welcome you receive at the mainhouse upon arrival is certainly worth the effort. An elevated boardwalk meanders through banana palms and tangled vines to 26 individual thatched-cabins. Interiors are bright and spacious with a smattering of indigenous art and sustainable wood furnishings. Each cabin is fully screened and provides a hot water shower. A bamboo horn call announces breakfast, lunch and dinner at the mainhouse, with freshly-prepared meals presented family style in the beautiful dining area. Sacha Lodge is widely renowned for its wildlife viewing facilities, most notably the magnificent canopy bridge suspended at a height of 30m (94ft) over the rainforest with mesmerising views for as far as the eye can see. The equally impressive observation tower soars to a mighty 43m (135ft) above the rainforest, clinging to the structure of a giant kapok tree and offering a close encounter with many of the exotic species of birds that frequent the canopy. Aside from viewing wildlife at dizzying heights, Sacha Lodge also houses an active exhibition of butterflies. Moreover, a series of excellent night walks and nature trails lead into the reserve, the most popular being to the clay lick at the edge of Yasuní National Park.
