Lake Sandoval Lodge
Lake Sandoval Lodge resides along the shores of Lake Sandoval, a protected oxbow lake set deep in the Tambopata Nature Reserve. This rustic rainforest lodge is the joint venture of a non-profit conservation group and a local indigenous community and is constructed almost entirely from mahogany driftwood harvested at the nearby Rio Manu. The lodge and all of its 25 rooms are distributed between two separate wings and all are fully screened with twin beds and an ensuite shower room. Please note that the lodges’ electricity supply is limited and often supplemented by kerosene lamps and candles. Meals are served family style in the main lodge accompanied by a bar and a comfortable lounge area strung with hammocks. Lago Sandoval is renowned for its small population of giant otters who forage and breed there, while the surrounding secondary rainforest is home to a vast array of wildlife including monkeys, macaws and anaconda. Visitors can explore this enchanting haven with experienced naturalist guides from the lodge. Activities range from trekking into the forest to paddling by dugout canoe along the tributaries and around the lake.
