Peninsula Valdes

Southern Right Whale

This kidney-shaped peninsula juts out of the Patagonian coastline in Southern Argentina. The Peninsula Valdes is considered one of the world’s wildlife hotspots and is an important breeding ground for Southern Right Whales that can easily be seen in the Golfo Nuevo. The peninsula is also home to Elephant Seals, Sea Lions and Fur Seals and Magellanic Penguins. The off-shore waters are frequented by Orca Whales whilst on land you can find various other animals from guanacos (a parent of the llama) to rheas (a parent of the ostrich) and armadillos, not to mention the 200+ species of birds. In 1999 Peninsula Valdes was recognised as a site of global significance for wildlife conservation and made a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
