Alalay Bolivia

Projects

Rural community development option:
Nearly two thirds of the Bolivian population (mainly the indigenous people) live in poverty, with about one third having an income of less than 50 pence a day. Infant mortality in Bolivia is among the highest in South America and one in ten children die before their 5th birthday. Many children are forced to fend for themselves on the street and subsequently fall into a life of addiction, crime or prostitution.  Alalay was created to offer a safe environment for street children.

On this trip we suggest you stay a few days at the Alalay centre, a charity which helps children leave the streets and find a family in a safe community with other children of like ages. Children are encouraged to start school and become a part of the community. Alalay is a charity which welcomes you to spend some time with the children. To help with a project if desired or just engage in the rural life or learn a new language.
