Summary
This is an exceptional opportunity to head deep into the Amazon jungle to the ancestral home of the Huaoranis. Here you will learn about the rich traditions of these fearsome people and their intimate and spiritual relationship with the forest. As you explore the area with your Huaorani guides you will learn about survival in the jungle, try and spot various wildlife and learn about the issues facing the Huaoranis in the 21st Century. The Huaoranis have inhabited these remote headwaters of the Amazon for millennia, living as hunter gatherers with no contact with the outside world until the arrival of missionaries in the late 1950's. Today the Huaoranis number approximately 3,000 people in a 680,000 hectare territory. They retain a largely traditional lifestyle and a fierce reputation as warriors in spite of the pressures of the modern world and the ever approaching and encroaching exploitations of the oil industry.
