Blue Footed Booby Day

Galapagos, blue footed boobies

The Blue-footed Booby is most famously found in the Galapagos Islands. Anyone lucky enough to spend time with these stunning birds can’t help but fall for them as they are always happy to perform their highly entertaining courtship dance - which involves the males flaunting their blue feet to the female.

While they are most elegant in flight, Blue-footed Boobies are rather clumsy on the ground and this, coupled with their iconic courtship dance, earned them their name - ‘booby’ coming from the Spanish term ‘bobo’, meaning down.

So on Friday 18 June why not start your weekend early by celebrating these charismatic birds? To join in the fun we are asking you to encourage all of your colleagues, family and friends to donate £2 each and make your feet blue like a Booby’s! This can be, done by wearing blue shoes, socks or by using our online template to create your own Booby feet!

We’d love to see all the Booby fun you get up to, so be sure to take photos and videos of your Blue-footed Booby Day and send them to us (details below). Or if blue feet aren’t your thing then why not buy one of our Blue-footed Booby ties and wear this to show your support?

There are many more ways to support Blue-footed Booby Day, all of which can be found on the GCT website www.savegalapagos.org/bluefootedboobyday
