Iceland's Volcanic Eruption Closes British Airspace

James Armitage

A volcanic eruption in Iceland has sent a plume of volcanic ash southwards over the UK and northern Europe.  Due to the quantity of fine rock and glass particles in the atmosphere, there is high potential for damage to jet engines.

All planes have been grounded over British Airspace since Thursday 15th April.  Airports will remain closed until 7am Saturday 17th April, subject to change.
