Chimps Outwit Hunters

Researchers in Guinea, Africa have observed Chimpanzees purposefully springing snares set out by humans. Studying the social behaviour of apes Guinea, primatologists Gaku Ohashi and Tetsuro Matsuzawa witnessed five chimps attempting to break and deactivate the snares and recently reported the fascinating discovery in the Primates journal.
Across Africa, snares are regularly set by people to catch food, unfortunately Chimpanzees are regularly caught in traps becoming injured or killed. It was noted in this region of Guinea that very few chimpanzees are trapped in snares, it would appear that they have outwitted humans.
