New Restaurant Introduces Central Asian Cuisine to London

Samarqand is a new restaurant and bar recently opened in the heart of Marylebone. Specialising in beautifully prepared authentic Central Asian cuisine, Samarqand offers diners the chance to experience rare, exotic and new flavours in a stylish and laid back environment.

Launched by Bek Narzit, and his brother Iska, both hailing originally from Tajikistan, Samarqand is set to introduce a new kind of eating to London. The venue’s interior combines minimal design with traditional Central Asian artefacts and motifs. With a bustling and theatrical open kitchen, diners can watch chefs prepare hand-made noodles and cook naans in the huge clay tandoors.

Devised by Head Chef Muhtar Umurzakov, the menu at Samarqand has its roots in the cuisines of countries like Uzbekhistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, but with a modern, light twist. The vibrant and richly woven texture of Central Asia’s history is reflected in its food, which has been heavily influenced by neighbouring territories as diverse as Russia, China and Mongolia. Samarqand’s menu has been created using family recipes and timehonoured favourites,
