Deborah West
Sales Support
I started my career in travel with the Ministry of Defence sending military personnel all over the world to their next posting. My current role in sales support at Steppes Discovery involves making sure our office runs smoothly, organising client files (and occasionally the staff). I have travelled to several long haul destinations including the Caribbean, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania.
Countries you provide sales support for at Steppes Discovery?
Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Congo, Venezuela, Ecuador, Galapagos, Peru, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Belize, and Mexico.
What has been your favourite travel experience?
My most memorable experiences being an encounter with cheetah in the Lewa Conservancy in Kenya and being woken by elephants outside my tent in the middle of the night at Chada Katavi, Tanzania.
The best hotel/lodge that you have stayed in?
Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge in Parc National Volcans, Rwanda and Joys Camp, Kenya.
What has been your most remote travel experience?
Mountain trekking in Rwanda in search of Silverback Gorilla.
Most embarrassing travel experience?
Walking into someone elses tent by mistake. They were in the bathroom at the time- lucky it was someone I knew.
Your one luxury when you travel?
Hairdryer.
What’s your best piece of travel advice?
Maintain good humour and go with the flow.
Where you would like to visit next and why?
Namibia for its diverse landscapes. Moreover, I would love to revisit Joys Camp in Kenya for more incredible views of elephants from your veranda and the midnight roar of lions.
