Fostered by a childhood in the West Indies, the travel bug bit me early. Propelled by my enthusiasm for diverse cultures and hot food, I have had the good fortune to have travelled to over 50 countries across 7 continents, including both poles. Some of my most memorable recent experiences include dog sledding in the Arctic, kayaking in Alaska, snorkelling with whale sharks off Mexico, piranha fishing in the Amazon and exploring Angkor in Cambodia. I set-up the Steppes Voyages department in 2009 and also run our sister company The Traveller who specialise in cultural, historical and archaeological tours.

Ponta Dos Ganchos, Southern Brazil.

Marius’s churrascarria, Rio.
What have been your most remote travel experiences?
Antarctica, East Greenland, Huaorani Territory in the Ecuadorian Amazon and a remote part of Shan State in Burma.
Most embarrassing travel experience?
Popping out in Saigon for food and inadvertently ending up in a brothel with dog, tortoise and rat on the menu.
Your one luxury when you travel?
Reading material on the country I'm travelling through.
What’s your best piece of travel advice?
Don't sit around procrastinating about it, just go!
Where you would like to visit next and why?
Papua New Guinea – one of the world’s last truly wild frontiers.
