Rod Cassidy
Tour Guide
Born and raised in South Africa, after completing school Rod began working at the Fitzpatrick Institute of Ornithology at the University of Cape Town which first fired his lifelong passion for birding. His love of the bush then drew him to the Transvaal Museum in Pretoria where he worked for 10 years on a number of research projects involving on birds, mammals and reptiles, whilst starting to guide during his spare time primarily to get funds to pursue his passion for travel.
He left the museum in 1990 to take up guiding full time, leading trips to a variety of African countries as a specialist bird guide and later developed a love for primates going on to lead several trips looking for the great apes. Rod has visited numerous African countries including Botswana, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Morocco, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Gabon, C.A.R. and the Congo. His excellent knowledge of the Congo region in particular and his friendship with the researchers, many of whom he knows personally, means that you gain an insight and understanding into the region and its people that is quite simply not possible with anyone else.
