Ocelot

ocelot

Ocelots are a medium-sized wild cat found throughout various parts of Central and South America. Their fur yellow/brown with irregular dark brown patterns. Depending on whether the cats are in more dry forests or rain forests the base colour of their fur will change to suit their environment. It measures, on average, a little over twice the size of a domestic cat.

Male and female can share a territory of roughly 3 square miles and have litters averaging two kittens. They are primarily nocturnal animals and good hunters. Their diet is made up of rabbits, rodents, fish, reptile and small deer.

They, themselves, are threatened by hunting for their fur as well as the destruction of their habitats. Their IUCN status is “threatened”.
